Complex Design
- Mixed fixed/floating layout
- Some elements (logo, left navigation bar) are sized explicitly, but the main content area smoothly expands to fill the window
- Multiple Navigation layers
- Top nav moves through major areas of site. Left nav bar options change within each group of pages and according to user's stored settings
Accessibility
- Passed formal audits
- The site was audited for accessibiliy both by an independent accessibility consulting group and by Federal government agencies
- Linearization
- Content is presented in a logical order even when using a browser that doesn't support CSS or tables
- Skip navigation
- When using screen reading software such as JAWS, additional options are presented to skip directly to the page body content
- Scalable text
- Allows users to increase or decrease default font size with browser controls
- Graphics presentation optimized for non-visual users
- Text descriptions are provided for any content graphics, but non-visual users are not distracted by spurious descriptions of visual elements used only for layout

Browser Compatability
- Browser Independent - visual aspects of site design preserved across Netscape/IE
- Platform Independent - visual aspects of site design preserved across Mac/Windows
- Legacy Requirement - site gracefully downgrades to older browser versions, losing design elements, but not functionality
- Forward Compatible - with XHTML standards
Maintainability
- CSS - Cascading Style Sheets separate content from layout
- Template-Driven Approach - MWMW developed HTML and CSS templates. Actual content on live site is dynamically-generated from database by client's Web platform. MWMW's templates comply with the input requirements of the client's content management system
- Documentation - extensive inline comments support extensibility
